Teamsters Take Down Picket Lines CN; CPKC Work Stoppage Ongoing

The following statement is attributable to the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference.

Montréal, August 23, 2024 – The lockout at CN now over, the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference has taken down picket lines at CN. Workers will begin returning to work on Friday.

The work stoppage at CPKC remains ongoing pending an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). Despite the Labour Minister’s referral, there is no clear indication that the CIRB will actually order an end to the labour dispute at CPKC.

The union and railroad officials met with the CIRB on Thursday, and will meet again with the CIRB at 10:00 a.m. eastern on Friday.

At over 125,000 members, Teamsters Canada is the country’s largest transportation and supply chain union. It’s also the largest union in the federally regulated private sector. They are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents over 1.2 million workers in North America.
