May 17, 2024
Dear members,
We met with the Company from May 13th to 17th, 2024. During this round of bargaining the Company has remained unreasonable and has continued to refuse to bargain our demands. As you are aware the Company publicized their latest offer, an offer that decimates your collective agreements and compromises your safety in favour of operational ease and profits. They have continued to table offers that remove hard fought for work rules, renege on recently significant achievements, and place your health, wellness, and safety in jeopardy.
The Company found it appropriate to send out their inadequate offer to the public and our membership. Your bargaining committee remains steadfast in working with federal mediators to bring the Company to the table, despite their insistent desire to bargain in the public, and not with your bargaining committee. With little to no movement, including the Company even refusing to amend our collective agreements to simply conform with the Canada Labour Code, coupled with the referral of our agreed upon Maintenance of Activities by the Minister of Labour, the Company appears to be oblivious to, nor recognize the gravity of the situation.
Your voice was heard loud and clear with an unprecedented return and favourable strike mandate. We will not back down and will continue to fight for positive changes to the terms and working conditions our members face daily.
In Solidarity,
Mark Kernaghan
